A Nottinghamshire-born crime boss known as an 'international drugs kingpin' has been sentenced to life in prison for ordering the murder of an innocent schoolteacher in the Netherlands.

Robert Dawes, a Nottinghamshire-born crime boss, was sentenced to life in prison for ordering the murder of an innocent schoolteacher in the Netherlands. Dawes, who became an international drugs kingpin, arranged for Gerard Meesters to be shot dead in 2002, suspecting his estranged sister had hidden money or drugs. Dawes, described as the 'intellectual mastermind' behind the killing, was convicted of 'inciting the murder' in November.

Mr Meesters, who had no connection to Dawes' criminal organization, was killed 'solely to instil fear in others.' Dawes was previously jailed for 22 years in 2018 for trafficking 1.3 tonnes of cocaine into Europe
