Relief goods have been prepositioned for around 700 families who were affected by the fire that hit a residential area in Mandaue City, Cebu on Tuesday, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) said Wednesday.
Interviewed during a Kapihan sa Manila Bay forum, DSWD Secretary Erwin Tulfo said President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has ordered the prepositioning of relief goods and to have people fed within 24 hours after the incident.
“Automatic, ang instruction ng Malacañang is prepositioning and taking care…ng needs ng mga tao in 24 hours. Ang gusto ng Pangulo, dapat ‘yung mga biktima na ‘yan ay nakakain in 24 hours or less. ‘Wag na paabutin bukas, kundi today,” he added., and damage to property was estimated to be more than P1 million.
Bureau of Fire Protection officials said the fire spread quickly along C. Ouano Street, Sitio Paradise in Barangay Looc, Mandaue City, as most houses in the area are made of light materials.
