A Massachusetts man was arrested for allegedly exporting U.S. technology to Iran, which was then used to manufacture a drone involved in a deadly attack that killed three American soldiers.

Federal officials believe two men, Mahdi Mohammad Sadeghi of Massachusetts and Mohammad Abedini of Milan, Italy, intentionally undermined U.S. national security by exporting U.S. technology to Abedini's company overseas. FBI investigators say Abedini's company allegedly used the exported parts to manufacture a drone that carried out a January 28 attack near the Syrian border, killing three American soldiers and injuring 47 others.

Federal officials claim Abedini's company has deep connections to the Iranian government, military, and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, a U.S.-defined terrorist organization. Both Sadeghi and Abedini are charged with export control violations, and Abedini separately faces charges of conspiring to provide material support to Iran. Sadeghi, a dual Iranian American citizen who works for a semiconductor company, was arrested for export violations and for providing material support to Iran.
