Belfast has 'already benefitted massively' from Dublin airport passenger cap, says Ryanair Head of Comms
A cap on passenger numbers in Dublin Airport will provide a boost to Northern Ireland as airlines look to divert passengers elsewhere in Ireland, Ryanair has said.
Ms Kirwan was speaking to Belfast Live just days after Ryanair's chief marketing officer Dara Brady said the Co Antrim airport was its “closest viable alternative” if the 32 million annual passenger limit in Dublin is not scrapped. "We've lost a lot of our extra flight capacity. They were the kind of ad hoc flights. The way it works is you'll have your historical slots and then you have your ad hoc slots. Historical are ones that you maintain for five-plus weeks. They would be your kind of regular schedule, and then the ad hoc ones would be the likes of your Christmas traffic, where you put on extra, for things like sporting events or or different things like that.
"So you know, it's important that we're that it has that kind of international recognition, and Dublin and Belfast, they're the only ones that kind of have that gravitas in the international market."
