Hallé St Peters has been described as 'the most extraordinary gift to the community'
celebrated a 'world-class' renovated hall which was one of the first pillars of the area's transformation. Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh officially opened The Oglesby Centre, the extension to Hallé St Peters, the historic former church which overlooks Cutting Room Square.The Oglesby Centre extension was built six years later
The Duchess, who is a patron of the Hallé, toured the revamped building and met dignitaries from across Greater Manchester before enjoying a performance from the Hallé Ancoats Community Choir which she described as 'joy on a plate'. Praising the work of the Hallé, the Duchess added:"It's yet another demonstration that the Hallé - over so many decades and generations - has been the most wonderful, outward-looking orchestra and body in society.
"Having a place of our own enables us to do more and do it better. We are more in control. We're also delighted to be in Ancoats.
