Luis Arraez, acquired in a trade last week, has been all he was expected to be atop the Padres' order
Luis Arraez got a hit in his first four at-bats as a member of the Padres. He pulled a fastball over the inner third of the plate down the right field line for a double and then hit three singles on pitches outside the strike zone. That was not the most impressive thing some Padres saw that day. They knew Arraez could hit.
There are almost certainly more hitters who could do what he does, even as well as he does, if that is what they chose to focus on. He does not advise it for everyone. 'There are a lot of very good players,' Arraez said. 'But big dudes, they want to hit homers, and then that's why they got more strikeouts and homers than hits. If I got power like those big guys — but I just want to touch the ball.' So he has become the best at that.
