Martin took home two bronze medals from the ITTF European Para Table Tennis Championships in Sheffield earlier this month.
Dumbarton’s Martin Perry edged closer to his Paralympic dream – and joked that wife Siobhain is no longer banned from watching him play.
Perry, who has a condition known as congenital limb loss and deformity which resulted in him being born with no hands and only one leg, said: “It was an amazing experience.“She had never seen me play on the international stage unless it was on YouTube. So to have her there was incredible. “If anything I could play more freely because I knew, no matter what happened, I was going to have that support.
Perry secured bronze after losing his semi-final to world number one Peter Rosenmeier from Denmark 3-1 – in a tense encounter where the Dumbarton man pushed the top seed all the way. “Nothing is secure just yet. But I’m in a good spot. I’m in the best position I’ve ever been in to qualify for the Paralympic Games,” added Perry.
