‘Dumbest of decisions’: Blues star slammed for ‘greatest error’ as Tribunal trip confirmed
As it stands, Martin will miss the next two matches, while fellow forward Harry McKay has been ruled out of Friday’s clash with Melbourne under concussion protocols.
Leigh Montagna said on Fox Footy’s The First Crack the absence of both Martin and McKay would be “significant”, with Martin having increased his output in the backhalf of this season.“This is the greatest error you can make if you’re Jack Martin. Lets be honest, he’s played 15, 11, 11 and 12 games the last four years and just when he’s got himself fit and healthy and playing good football, he does this. It’s the dumbest of decisions,” he said.
“I know Michael Voss has supported him publicly, but he’d be seething behind the scenes. You lose Harry and he’s been a critical member of this forward 50, Jack Martin. He’s something different. He does all the things you need a second or third key forward to do. “This is unacceptable at this level ... they just kill you. Having fit players in the grandstand for big games in September is just unacceptable.
“Van Rooyen is the same. He’s just got himself going. What are Melbourne lacking? Forward 50 options and he’s going to be sitting in the stands. It’s just crazy.”SPORTS
