Visit showed Anas Sarwar MSP the enterprising diversity in Annan and Lockerbie
Dumfriesshire businesses enjoyed a visit by Scottish Labour Leader Anas Sarwar MSP and Scottish economy spokesperson Daniel Johnson MSP, in the company of South Scotland MSP Colin Smyth.
Mr Smyth said: “I am delighted that Anas and Daniel took up the invitation from local businesses to visit them to listen to the challenges they face, but also the huge opportunities that exist. I am extremely proud of my home region, and it is always a pleasure to welcome my Labour colleagues to Dumfries and Galloway.
“Being able to show Anas and Daniel the diversity of business opportunity in Lockerbie and Annan was great. From forestry to hospitality to whisky, there is such a lot to boast about. “It was good to highlight success stories in our region but also show how important it is to support rural areas. The south west is often the forgotten region when it comes to national decision making and myself, Anas and Daniel are doing all we can to change that perception. This will be one of many visits they have planned.”
They visited James Jones sawmill at Lockerbie before heading to Annan to hold a roundtable with local hospitality businesses –hosted by the Scottish Hospitality Group at Our Place restaurant – and enjoyed a look around the ECO Group premises. Finally, they attended the 10th anniversary celebrations at Annandale Distillery.
