The Tannadice boss has turned to a familiar market from his days as Aberdeen boss.
The deal for the 24-year-old free agent is now subject to the player getting a work permit and passing his medical. Trapanovski is set to quit Shkupi and head to Scotland later this month. The player, a former Macedonian under-21 cap, has also turned out for Academia Pandev and Slavia Prague B.
United manager Jim Goodwin is no stranger to Macedonia. He signed Bojan Miovski for Aberdeen and will be hoping his fellow countryman can have similar success on Tayside. Trapanovski could swell the North Macedonian ranks in Scotland with Motherwell also having Davor Zdravkoski. Newly-promoted United are working hard to strengthen their squad after their promotion back to the Premiership. A deal has already been done for United to sign keeper Dave Richards on a two-year-deal from Crewe.
United also hope to seal a deal for Cheltenham defender Will Ferry in the coming days. United youngster Miller Thomson is also set to sign a new long-term deal. His current deal was due to expire.
