Authorities told John Laveric to make changes, but he ignored them
A man who subjected his neighbours to seven years of torment after being unable to stop his dogs from barking had narrowly avoided being jailed. John Laveric,48, was banned from keeping dogs as a result of the noise in what was previously described as "one of the worst cases ever".
This saw Laveric handed a second criminal behaviour order in November 2022, which enforced a ban on him keeping dogs at either of the two properties or anywhere within the borough of Halton. The Liverpool ECHO reported at the time that complaints were lodged against him by 11 neighbouring properties over the span of three years, with his dogs being recorded barking an astonishing 1,645 times in a 20-minute period on one date alone.
"The prosecution say that this is an absolute sham, where the defendant intends to create a picture where he is not the owner of the dogs. This defendant simply cannot be trusted to abide with an order. "These are dogs who have had a significant positive impact on the defendant's life. Daphne and Tormand were raised by the defendant, surviving from a very poorly litter of 12.
"It is not about the dogs any more. It is about him being there in the twilight of her life. He is emotional in the dock, as he should be. This is a man who can rehabilitate himself." "I am told that the council continues to receive complaints, indicating continued breaches of the criminal behaviour order. You have sought to blame your neighbours, suggesting that the problems would abate upon you leaving the Halton area. The problems stem from you being a noise nuisance to others, wherever that may be.
