The new test centre was originally granted planning permission in 2019 with a planned completion date of 2022.
The long-awaited opening of a new Northern Ireland MOT centre is facing further delays, it has emerged. The Hydebank facility, which was originally due to open in 2022, may now not begin operating until mid-2025 at the earliest.
Mr O’Dowd has also said that the planned opening of new MOT test centres in Hydebank and Mallusk will provide extra testing capacity for 200,000 vehicles per year. In a statement, the Driver Vehicle Agency said: “The Department served a notice to terminate its contract with Worldwide Environmental Products, Inc on 9th October 2024 with immediate effect.
“This will not impact on the provision of vehicle testing at the DVA’s existing network of 15 test centres, as the equipment at these test centres is provided and maintained under a different contract. Since June 1, one-year temporary exemption certificates have been implemented for some private cars. They apply to vehicles first registered between 1st June 2019 and 31st May 2020 or between 1st June 2017 and 31st May 2018, with an existing valid MOT certificate issued by the Driver and Vehicle Agency .
