Each year in March and September new number plates are released by the DVLA - meaning certain ones are banned.
The DVLA has issued a list of banned registration plates for cars following the launch of some new numbers today.
Earlier this year, the latest 23 plate was made available for newly registered vehicles for the first time and from today, September 1, that will be replaced by the 73 plate. Drivers will therefore be able to tell at a glance which year a car was first sold and registered to an owner.
