The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) has issued a reminder to all UK motorists about the importance of having a valid license plate for any vehicle used on public roads. The DVLA clarified that motorists need both identity documents and proof of registration number eligibility when obtaining a replacement number plate. Acceptable identity documents include driving licenses, utility bills, bank statements, and national identity cards.

The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency has issued an alert to all UK motorists over number plate s. Any vehicle used on a public road must have a verified licence plate, with the exception being vehicles of the King used on official business.

DVLA is the government department that issues driving licences and, essentially, monitors on all motorists. It also issues important information to keep road users safe, and in a new post on X on Monday, DVLA said: "Number plate lost, stolen or damaged? Registered number plate suppliers will ask for identity documents and proof you can use the registration number."

The update adds that motorists will need both an identity document and proof that they can use the registration number. Information found on a link DVLA included states you may need to have a number plate made up if, for example, yours has been lost, stolen or damaged, you're important a car to the UK, or if you've purchased a personalised registration number.

Acceptable identity documents to prove your name and address are your driving licence, utility, council tax or rates bill from the last six months, a bank or building society statement from the last six months, or a national identity card.
