The DVLA is set to strip older drivers of two major driving freedoms
A DVLA regulation trimming the liberties of older drivers has sparked uproar, slammed as a "persecution of pensioners". Readers have vocally aired their objections regarding the edict that diminishes the driving rights of elder motorists.
Those over 70 wishing to keep these specifications must prove their driving aptness through medical checks. Although not a recent implementation, the DVLA's stance is bound to catch some imminent septuagenarians unaware this year, unfamiliar with such regulations, as reported by the Express. Meanwhile, @MiniMiner added fuel to the criticism: "I find it incredible that we are gradually moving the state retirement age towards 70 and yet we seem to also be saying that come 70 we are all decrepit and need to be checked. What about all those from 17 to 70? ", reports Bristol Live.
@rusty53a jumped into the debate, commenting: "Never mind worrying about drivers over 70 - people should worry about drivers in their teens and early 20s who live a very fast-paced life and are forever checking their phones, not watching the road."
