The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has had the power to impose a fine on Universal Credit and benefit claimants
Universal Credit claimants, and people in receipt of other benefits, are being warned they could face a £50 fine.
The ‘civil penalty’ is £50 and will be added to the amount of the overpayment and will be recovered by the same method.know of any change in circumstances that may affect your benefits, including changing your name, moving house, or having a new addition to the family. A civil penalty will not be applied if the DWP decides to take action under benefit fraud provisions.
