The DWP implementing stricter rules and a crackdown on Universal Credit in a change of regulations for jobseekers
The Department for Work and Pensions is planning to check up on Universal Credit claimants to see if they're really hunting for jobs.
This means people who are asking for Universal Credit will regularly have their "Claimant Commitment" reviewed. As part of this deal, claimants must attend job interviews.People asking for help also need to make a CV, search for work and go to meetings about getting a job at the Jobcentre. The DWP revealed it would mainly focus on people who have been unemployed for 13 weeks or more, or who have low earnings after half a year.
The benefits department has clarified on the government's website: "The claimant commitment is your record of the responsibilities that you have accepted in return for receiving universal credit, and the consequences of not meeting them."
