Some 25 power companies are part of the Warm Home Discount scheme that will reopen this month, giving eligible households £150 towards their energy costs every year
Customers of 25 power companies may be in line to have £150 wiped off their energy bills as the temperatures drop this year. The move - which would help people on DWP benefits and other hard-up customers - could be a major boost after more than 10 million people lost access to the winter fuel payment.
Addressing the impact of recent changes to the winter fuel payments - which mean only individuals claiming Pension Credit are eligible - Pensions Minister Emma Reynolds MP has pinpointed the Warm Home Discount as vital for those who will find themselves without this previous benefit. In a written reply to a parliamentary enquiry, she pressed for those affected to check if they meet the conditions for the Warm Home Discount scheme, reports Lancs Live.
Your eligibility is based on whether you either get the Guarantee Credit element of Pension Credit, or are on a low income and have high energy costs. Moreover, it's necessary that your energy supplier is participating in the programme.
