The Household Support Fund has been extended until next spring, with £421 million being distributed to English councils to give to residents in need of financial assistance
The Household Support Fund, initially set to conclude on September 30, has now been extended until the forthcoming spring. A total of £421 million will be allocated to English councils for distribution to residents in need, with an additional £79 million being made available to councils across Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
Earlier this week, Rachel Reeves attributed the decision to scrap the Winter Fuel Payment to the previous Conservative government, which she claimed had left a £22 billion deficit in the nation's finances. Councils also get to decide how much they offer to each household and when to open their share of the fund. However, you can contact your local authority to find out when the fund will open and whether you qualify. If you're not eligible for the Household Support Fund in your local area, it's worth checking if you qualify for benefits.
