Waspi campaigners have demanded compensation and an apology from the government department
The Department for Work and Pensions has issued a statement following a report that said thousands women could be owed billions of pounds.
Meanwhile, Women Against State Pension Inequality campaigners claim that millions of women had lost out due to the change. The ombudsman also stated that the DWP has not acknowledged its failings.A DWP spokesperson said: “We will consider the ombudsman’s report and respond in due course, having co-operated fully throughout this investigation.
PHSO chief executive Rebecca Hilsenrath said: ”The UK’s national ombudsman has made a finding of failings by DWP in this case, and has ruled that the women affected are owed compensation. DWP has clearly indicated that it will refuse to comply.
