The DWP is set to publish a Green Paper on health and disability reform this spring

The Department for Work and Pensions is gearing up to announce its plans for changes to health and disability benefits in an upcoming Green Paper, expected this spring. Sir Stephen Timms, Minister for Social Security and Disabilities, stated that the details, alongside a public consultation, will be unveiled before Chancellor Rachel Reeves delivers her Spring Statement on Wednesday, March 26, reports The Express.

Sir Stephen has affirmed the government's commitment to including individuals with disabilities and their representatives in the policy development process. He declared: "This Government is committed to putting the views and voices of disabled people at the heart of all that we do, so we will consult on these proposals, where appropriate, with disabled people and representative organisations.

Sir Stephen highlighted the government's pledge to put disabled individuals at the forefront, stressing: "This Government is committed to putting the views and voices of disabled people at the heart of all that we do, and with any reform, including the Health and Disability Green Paper we intend to publish in the Spring, we will consult with disabled people and representative organisations.

He noted that the programme actively seeks input from disabled people and external stakeholders, incorporating their suggestions into improving the service. Scots currently receiving PIP and due to transition to the new Adult Disability Payment have been assured by officials that the upcoming changes will not impact their move to the devolved system.

Kendall has proposed her plan to address the issue, with an emphasis on boosting employment and transforming Jobcentres, alongside a comprehensive revamp of the benefits system. "But the way to do this is to get more people into work through the reforms that we're putting in place in our Jobcentres and through reform of the benefit system. And we'll be bringing forward our green paper on reforming sickness and disability benefits in the spring," she explained to PA.
