DWP state pension claimants may have to work far longer before retiring

The state pension age is currently 66 but it is set to rise to 67 in just a few years - and then is likely to go far higher

An expert has issued a warning that raising the state pension age to 70 and beyond is on the horizon. And they say it could have a "disproportionate impact" on certain Britons.

Legislation is already in place for the age to incrementally increase to 67 between 2026 and 2028, and then to 68 between 2044 and 2046. However, Mr Ambery cautioned that increasing the state pension age could disproportionately affect some individuals more than others. "This could also have wider beneficial impacts for all ages and employment levels across the population." Mr Ambery suggested that another option for the Government to keep the state pension affordable would be to modify the triple lock.
