The DWP has been found guilty of maladministration

The Department for Work and Pensions has shared an update after research suggests that almost 40 million women have been impacted by the rise in State Pension age. It was found in July 2021 by the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman that the DWP had failed to communicate the state pension age changes, after increasing the age from 60 to 65, and later to 66.

Stage two of the investigation has been delayed due to a legal change. Earlier this week, SNP MP Dr Philippa Whitford, asked whether the DWP boss plans to meet with the women affected to discuss the issue, after they were being sent meeting requests in August and September, reports The Daily Record.

The most-recent update on the PHSO website states: “We had intended to publish our final report by the end of March 2023. With a legal challenge brought against us, we have agreed to look again at part of our stage 2 report. Our final publication will be delayed while this takes place. The SNP’s Patricia Gibson tabled an Early Day Motion in Parliament during July for MPs to debate the impact of continuing unfair pension treatment of 1950s-born WASPI women, which has so far received 20 signatures of support from MPs.
