A study by the University of Bath has revealed the system is in dire need of a review, with a number of recommendations being made by the Institute for Policy Research (IPR) at the university
Universal Credit needs massive changes to help those on low incomes, experts are warning. A study from the University of Bath highlights an urgent need for an overhaul of the system.
The report demands a complete reform of both Universal Credit itself and the connected discounts and freebies. It also looks at the link between Universal Credit and a person's earnings - as well as other benefits including council tax relief, utility bill support, and prescription charge waivers. The experts say their proposals could help forge "fairer methods for withdrawing support as earnings increase". In addition to overhauling rules, they also want to see an increase in benefits in line with inflation and amendments to the system to improve work incentives.
