So far there have been 211 confirmed cases nationwide
Dozens of sandwich varieties have been pulled from store shelves following the detection of over 200 E. coli cases in the UK, all linked to a single outbreak.
Most cases have been identified in young adults, but the bacteria has also been confirmed in children as young as two and elderly individuals up to 79 years old. The UKHSA is collaborating with the Food Standards Agency , Food Standards Scotland, and devolved public health agencies to investigate the outbreak.Several product recall notices have been issued by the FSA based on the evidence collected thus far.
"Infections caused by STEC bacteria can cause severe bloody diarrhoea and, in some cases, more serious complications. We therefore advise any consumers who have any of these products not to eat them. The FSA is here to ensure that food is safe. If there are products on the market that are not, we won't hesitate to take action to remove them."
While specific locations of the cases have not been disclosed in the latest data, it is possible to track recent E. coli notifications sent to the UKHSA by GPs.
