The compost handed out will come from the recycled contents of brown bins collected by the council.
A council has said it will hold more "free compost giveaway" events after the concept proved popular earlier this year.
East Riding Council handed out 60 tonnes of compost when it ran the giveaway sessions in May and they will return in September. The matter has been recycled from food waste collected in brown bins, and could be reused as garden fertiliser, mulch and potting soil.September’s collection events will be in Preston, Goole, Pocklington, Beverley, Hornsea, Withernsea, Carnaby and Driffield.
Councillor Paul West, cabinet member for environment and transport, said: “Our giveaways were a big hit with residents in May and I’m sure these next dates will be as popular as ever. “It’s our way of thanking residents for their help in recycling as much of their waste as they can - and what a great job they do.”The material accepted includes grass trimmings, hedge trimmings, flowers, leaves, food, peelings, bones, bread, meat, eggshells and soups.Recycling centre hopes to expand to reduce firesPlans outlined by the Scottish government would see the charge introduced in a bid to cut use of disposable cups.
