As EastEnders fans prepare to face a blast from the past this week with the return of Peter and Cindy Beale, we take a closer look at who's who in the iconic Beale family
As Peter and Cindy Beale make their surprising return to Albert Square this week, many fans at home have been raising a few eyebrows over just how close both of Peter’s siblings Anna Knight and Bobby Beale have been getting.
Deciding to call it quits, Kathy remained in Walford and her character regularly appeared on the show until 2000, when she bid farewell to the square. Ian Beale Once considered to be a staple of Albert Square, Ian Beale is the eldest child of Kathy and Pete Beale and was first introduced to the show back in 1985.
His marriage to Sharon Watts in particular hit a very sour note, after she tried to poison him for his role in her son’s death - and of course, let’s not forget first wife Cindy, who even hired a hit man to kill him! She first made her debut on the soap all the way back in 1988, when she was introduced for a brief 11 episode run as the daughter of a market trader selling hats. However despite her limited screen time, she proved to be such a hit with fans, Cindy soon became a series regular, and formed one of the main cast members on the soap for the next decade.
A short time after the wedding, Cindy gave birth to a healthy baby boy, Steven in December 1989. However, after seeing the little one, Simon decided he wanted to be involved, with the truth finally coming to light when he convinced Cindy to leave her husband to start a new life with him. Unwilling to let Ian take her children, Cindy took drastic action in 1996, when she hired a hitman to murder her husband, so that she would be free to pursue her romance. Although she did change her mind about going through with the plot, her decision to back out came too late, and Ian was shot before her very eyes.
Unfortunately this romance wasn’t to last either, and in a cruel twist, Rose made the heartbreaking decision to abandon her children and new lover, although the reason for this has yet to be revealed. Often acting recklessly and without considering her actions, Lucy soon embarked on a number of scandalous flints before tragically being murdered by her own younger brother Bobby Beale.
In 1996, Peter was the subject of an intense abduction saga, after mum Cindy fled Walford with him and his half-brother Steven Beale after failing to have Ian killed by a hitman. Peter later made another return to our screens in 2023, when he was seen reconnecting with his father and mother Cindy in France, 25 years after he had mistakenly believed she had died.Bobby Beale is the younger half brother of Peter and Lucy, and the only child of Ian Beale and his third wife Laura Dunn.
Anna Knight Anna Knight is the youngest daughter of Cindy Beale and George Knight, although they only ever knew her by her alias Rose Knight.
