The start of the year brought a flood of easy Gamerscore opportunities as over 60 Xbox games received free title updates adding 1,000 Gamerscore each. This trend, popularized in 2020, allows developers to add new achievements without necessarily including new content. While some celebrate the increased accessibility, others argue that it dilutes the value of Gamerscore. Afil Games, Eastasiasoft, and JM Neto Games led the charge with numerous updates, and more are expected in the coming weeks.
With the start of the year, the floodgates opened once more, and over 60 quick completions were updated with easy 1,000G title updates in January 2025, giving players a ridiculous amount of easy Gamerscore to earn for free. Another 4,000G in free and easy title updates has been added in the first four days of February. It is indeed that time of year again when developers are allowed to add new achievements and Gamerscore to their games. In January alone, a total of 65,000 Gamerscore was added across 64 games in free and easy title updates. These updates didn't necessarily include any new content, but they did add a load of easy achievements for players to unlock. The move was considered highly controversial, and it split the majority of the achievement-hunting community into two groups: those who believed it diluted the worth of Gamerscore and those who thought it was good for the consumer. Since then, developers and publishers have added easy title updates when Microsoft's Xbox achievement rules allow. Between the 'semi-annual' limits of January to June and July to December, developers and publishers may add up to 100 new achievements worth up to a maximum total of 1,000 Gamerscore to a game. New content doesn't need to be added with these updates, but the new achievements 'must represent a thorough exploration of or engagement with game content.' This new wave of easy title updates comes from a variety of different publishers, but Afil Games features the most with 19 title updates. Oddly, Moo & Move: Extra Grazing Grounds, despite only launching on January 3, has received two 1,000G title updates — one on the day of launch and another on January 6.
