National Air Traffic Services (NATS) said it is experiencing a “technical issue”

UK airspace has been hit by a technical fault, the country’s leading provider of air traffic control services said.

Follow our live blog here The BBC has reported that NATS has said airspace is not closed, with a spokesman adding: "We are continuing to work hard to resolve the technical issue. To clarify, UK airspace is not closed, we have had to apply air traffic flow restrictions which ensures we can maintain safety.

"If you are already onboard one of our planes waiting to take off then our crew will keep you updated. If you are in one of our airports waiting to board then please continue to check the flight information screens in the terminal and we will provide further updates on flight tracker. Any customers affected by delays and disruption to their flight will receive email and sms information direct to the contact details provided at the time of booking.

Meanwhile, airline Loganair warned customers they may experience delays as a “network-wide failure” has affected air-traffic control systems on Monday morning.
