A report by the Independent Commission for Equity in Cricket in June said racism is entrenched in English cricket; ECB have established a new independent regulatory body as part of its action plan
Richard Thompson, ECB Chair, apologised for the findings of the ICEC report and hopes the response will provide an opportunity to move forward collectively.Nasser Hussain and Michael Atherton reflect on the ICEC report which found English cricket is deep-rooted with widespread institutional racism, sexism and class-based discrimination
The response from the ECB include a new Cricket Regulator, overseen by an independent Cricket Regulatory Board - and ring-fenced from the rest of the ECB - which will be responsible for enforcement of regulations and carrying out investigations.
Other actions include tripling the number of girls club teams by 2026, expanding the Talent Pathway, investing £2m into charity partners to boost their work in breaking down barrier, working on their partnerships with ACE Programme, providing support and training across the cricket network to enhance understanding of discrimination and the management of complaints across the cricket network."I’ve been really clear that all these initiatives and commitments are the easier things to do.
"I went through the ECB response in 1999 and it’s different words but similar solutions. I’m disappointed because people still get in touch. You have the issues at Essex still on going. Nothing’s been done, nothing has progressed. You’ve got different issues popping up and down the country.
