Eddie Hearn, Anthony Joshua's promoter, has refuted claims that Joshua has already signed contracts for his next fight. Despite rumors circulating on social media suggesting bouts against Martin Bakole and Deontay Wilder, Hearn insists there have been no discussions regarding either matchup. Hearn also dismissed Bakole's assertions that he injured Joshua during a sparring session.
Eddie Hearn has denied reports that Anthony Joshua has agreed to his next fight, stating that the heavyweight champion is yet to begin negotiations with any opponent. Rumors have circulated on social media, suggesting Joshua has signed contracts for bouts against both Martin Bakole and Deontay Wilder. However, Hearn dismissed these claims, emphasizing that there have been no discussions regarding either matchup.
Bakole, a Congolese heavyweight, has recently expressed his desire to face Joshua, even asserting that he injured the two-time heavyweight world champion during a sparring session. Hearn, who has been Joshua's promoter throughout his professional career, contradicted Bakole's story, stating that he has never witnessed Bakole land a significant blow on Joshua during sparring. 'I think Martin Bakole is a very good fighter, but don't get carried away that this is the new George Foreman,' Hearn said, acknowledging Bakole's talent while downplaying his potential threat. 'The problem with Bakole is, he is a handful, but he doesn't really bring the dollars for the fight.' Joshua's bid to reclaim his heavyweight throne was thwarted by Oleksandr Dubois last September at Wembley Stadium, where he suffered his fourth career defeat and second via stoppage. A rematch against Dubois was anticipated, but Joshua opted out of negotiations, leading to Dubois facing Joseph Parker on February 22nd instead. While a showdown with Dubois seems improbable for now, Hearn revealed that Tyson Fury remains at the top of Joshua's desired opponents. 'It's always been the two – Tyson Fury – who is retired at the moment, we'll see how long that lasts, and the winner of Dubois-Parker,' Hearn stated, outlining Joshua's ideal next opponent. Joshua has previous encounters with both Dubois and Parker, having dethroned Parker of his WBO title in their 2018 unification fight. Hearn believes that if Parker manages to overcome Dubois, it will cast doubts on Dubois' perceived invincibility. 'If Parker can get through those rounds, you've got to put question marks back in Dubois' head because right now I think he thinks he's invincible,' Hearn commented. 'I think he's beatable and I think Parker is the guy to do it. Right now, a confident Daniel Dubois is a dangerous man.
