Liverpool turned down an approach from Newcastle United to sign Anthony Gordon earlier last month, and Eddie Howe has confirmed talks took place with the player
Eddie Howe has confirmed that transfer conversations took place with Anthony Gordon this summer. However, the Newcastle United head coach is confident the England international has not had his head turned by the potential of a move to Liverpool . Newcastle and Liverpool held talks over Gordon last month as the north-east club sought to sell players to comply with Premier League profitability and sustainability rules.
“I’m confident he is OK,' the Newcastle boss told reporters. 'We’ve had no conversations over the summer where it has been fractious or negative. He’s always been the Anthony Gordon who has given absolutely everything to Newcastle. Reflecting on those frantic few days at the end of last month, Howe acknowledged: 'He’s such an important player for us. We didn’t want to lose anybody.
