SAN ANTONIO - Edgewood Independent School District welcomed hundreds to gather and remember the soldiers who died in the line of duty during Vietnam. We spoke to one of the organizers who gave more insight into the district’s history, and how they wish to continue celebrating the lives and contributions of their fallen service members.
“After further review, we found that there were 55 total that died from the district,” said Edward Contreras with Compadres for Scholarships. “Now, the 10 that died from Vietnam, from one class, was the highest mortality rate for the United States. The 55 that died from the district is the second highest from the United States, so every year we put together this ceremony.”
