The new 3D scanners will enable passengers to carry up to two litres of liquid on to planes

Edinburgh Airport has ordered new high-tech scanners that will put an end to the limits on passengers travelling with liquids.

Smith Detection have been awarded the contract to produce eight X-ray images, which will eliminate the requirement to remove electronic devices, liquids, and gels from hand luggage. It was revealed last year that the UK Government has set all airports in Scotland a deadline to introduce the new scanners.

Edinburgh Airport announced today that the new scanners are not operational yet and passengers should continue to adhere to the current rules for the 'foreseeable future' until a further announcement is made.
