The move came after police were blasted with petrol bombs and fireworks in a clash with 100 youths on Bonfire Night in Niddrie last year.
Fireworks are to be banned in four areas of Edinburgh in November following violent disorder last year.
Elected officials on the Culture and Communities committee at Edinburgh City Council voted against a control zone covering the entire city. The restrictions are thought to be the first time new powers allowing Scottish local authorities to designate ‘firework control zones’ have been used, reports the BBC.
