Flows from Comal Springs in New Braunfels have fallen, prompting restrictions on cities and utilities that pump water from the Edwards Aquifer.

For the second time in less than a week, the Edwards Aquifer Authority has changed its pumping restrictions again, this time because flow from Comal Springs has dropped. The authority manages how much water is pumped from the Edwards Aquifer, a limestone cavern system that spans more than 3,000 miles and provides water for more than 2 million people.

Local, federal officials come up with money to resume monitoring at Jacob’s Well It's the third change in less than a month, as the authority entered Stage 4 on June 7, then dropped back to Stage 3 last week. The changing restrictions are due to changing water levels in the different locations used to measure the aquifer’s levels, which rise and fall depending on how much water is used and how much recharge there is from rainfall.
