A fire erupted near the lifts of the Eiffel Tower in Paris, leading to its evacuation. Emergency services responded swiftly to the incident, ushering tourists away from the iconic landmark. The blaze, believed to have originated in the lift shaft between the first and second levels, caused initial difficulties for firefighters to access the heart of the flames.
The Eiffel Tower in Paris was evacuated this morning after a fire started near the lifts. Emergency services rushed to the scene and tourists were ushered away from the iconic landmark. Witnesses report that the Eiffel Tower has been shut down during the firefighting efforts, with initial difficulties for the crew to reach the heart of the fire. It's believed the fire started in the lift shaft between the first and second levels of the tower.
A social media user posted: 'A fire is currently raging at the Eiffel Tower. The monument has just been evacuated. An emergency response company has established a perimeter, but firefighters are unable to access the flames.' Another added: 'A fire is in progress at the Eiffel Tower. Flames were observed in the elevator shaft between the 1st and 2nd floors. All people in the vicinity have been evacuated. The firefighters are still working.' The source of the blaze that sparked an evacuation has apparently been discovered. As reported by a journalist for Boulevard Voltaire: 'Around 1200 people were evacuated. The firefighters have reportedly identified the origin of the flames as overheating of a cable.' Expanding on this he added: 'The fire has been brought under control and is now out. The fire is believed to have been caused by an overheating device near a cable of one of the elevators.' Parisians haven't forgotten the devastating Notre Dame Cathedral fire that sent thick smoke billowing in 2019. This month, the newly rebuilt church hosted its first Mass, symbolising the city's enduring spirit. Notre Dame's remarkable recovery from ruin showcased exceptional artisanship, driven by almost £1billion in global donations and a steadfast commitment to restoration
