A new survey of over 12,000 drivers conducted by the AA reveals just how knowledgeable drivers are on the rules of the road when it comes to driving violations. The AA has highlighted eight lesser-known driving offences, to help motorists avoid some potentially hefty fines as they hit the roads.
The top five most commonly committed driving offences are driving above the speed limit , swearing or making rude gestures at fellow motorists, driving without clearing snow off your roof, flashing your headlights to warn other drivers of speed traps and Driving with an unsecured pet in your vehicle.
Breakdown experts at the AA have shone a light on some of the lesser-known road rules that drivers need to be aware of, in order to avoid some potentially costly fines.Penalty: A fixed penalty notice of £100, increasing to £5,000 if the case goes to court, or if the driver was found to have acted with clear aggressiveness
42% of drivers are unaware that it’s an offence to drive with your pet in the vehicle if they are not properly secured. The Highway Code defines this as being ‘suitably restrained’, which, in most cases, will mean keeping pets in carry crates or specially designed pet seats.Almost half of drivers are unaware that warning other drivers of police presence or speed traps is an offence, and 20% of drivers admitted to having done this in the past.
