Find out all the winners on the night as the town crowd its top amateur sports stars
Angus Wilkinson became the youngest-ever winner of the East Kilbride Sports Personality of the Year prize and set his sights on more records this year.
This all led to Angus being crowned the town’s overall amateur sports person of the year, having also shared the under-18 award with cyclist Finn Johnstone. And as he continues to set new records, Angus is determined to add more to his collection. “I will be doing the same race in Stirling again this year and hopefully I can go fast there again. That’s towards the end of the season and that’s when I am at my fastest. To get the world record for a 15-year-old would be pretty cool, but we’ll just have to wait and see.”
Angus' dad David said: “We were blown away when we got the news he had won U18 and the main prize because it is incredible what all these athletes in the town are doing. It puts EKAC on the map as well so we are all proud as punch.” While Angus and Finn, who was also absent, won the U18 male prize, cricketer Nayma Sheikh claimed the under-18 female prize. This was accepted on her behalf by her brother, Taimoor, due to Nayma competing in Dubai with the Scotland national team. Staying with the same cricketing family, mum Moon Mughis was named coach of the year.
Administrator of the year went to Amy Hicks in the sport of trampoline, while East Kilbride Gymnastics Club won club of the year. And there was a treble triumph for St Kenneth’s Primary School as they picked up junior team of the year, top sporting school and their coach Richard Wyatt claimed the Scottish Club Sports award for outstanding sporting service.
