) - The smell of grilled sausage will fill the air Saturday as the Elberta Volunteer Fire Department hosts the spring installment of the German Sausage Festival.Spanning more than four decades, the Elberta German Sausage Festival is a staple in Baldwin County culture. Savory smoke will fill the air as fat drippings fall on hot coals. This year, fire department volunteers will cook up 6,500 pounds of German sausage and expect to sell every bit of it. Ashley Delaney Waffle Bar and Bakery said, “There’s always an amazing crowd that shows up to support the fire department and they also love waffles so that does great for us. They get the savory sausage and then they come over and get a sweet treat from us.” “We make it here on site. It’s a little sweet, a little salty. It’s different and once you’ve tried it, you won’t eat regular popcorn again,” Steiner said.
