'I suppose we’re wearing our influences on our sleeves. It’s lighter, it’s more humorous, and it’s loads of fun'

“The last time we played in arenas, we didn’t really have many songs that were arena-worthy,” says Guy Garvey. Taken at face value, it’s a strange admission from the frontman of a band who have been filling UK arenas for nearly 15 years, but those who have followed Elbow’s trajectory since The Seldom Seen Kid catapulted them into the UK’s musical stratosphere will have an idea of where he’s coming from.

It’s definitely more ‘Grounds for Divorce’ than ‘One Day Like This’. We’ve just finished mastering it in the last few days, and we’re all buzzing.”

“There’s all kinds of stuff on there, everything from Stiff Records-era garage to big beat, through to things like The Meters; I suppose we’re wearing our influences on our sleeves. It’s lighter, it’s more humorous, and it’s loads of fun.”
