Eldorado Allen, a veteran chaser, is tipped to win the Unibet Veterans’ Handicap Chase at Sandown Park. The 11-year-old hasn't tasted victory in nearly three years but is in good form. He previously defeated top-level horses like Royale Pagaille and Clan Des Obeaux.

ELDORADO ALLEN can roll back the years to win the Unibet Veterans’ Handicap Chase (2024 Veterans’ Chase Series Final) (3pm) at Sandown Park on Saturday afternoon. Joe Tizzard’s 11-year-old has not won for almost three years but can land the extended three-mile contest at the Esher track. Eldorado Allen was a smart novice chaser and mixed it at Grade One and Grade Two level with some success.

He hasn’t won since scoring in the Grade Two Denman Chase at Newbury in February 2022 but he beat Grade One performers in Royale Pagaille – a dual winner of the Betfair Chase at Haydock Park – and dual King George VI Chase scorer Clan Des Obeaux – on that first try at a three-mile trip. He was the third to Allaho dropped back to 2m5f for the Ryanair Chase at the Cheltenham Festival afterwards and although he only has four wins from 25 chase starts he rarely runs a bad race. He is yet to win over these longer trips but he has run well in two starts in veteran chases so far this season, hinting he can get his head back in front. Following a wind operation and long break after he finished 20th in the Randox Grand National at Aintree Racecourse, Eldorado Allen was second on his seasonal return in a qualifier for this final at Warwick in November. He was third stepped back to 2m4f at Cheltenham last time – a trip that is probably on the short side these days. He is now down to a mark of 149 and Eldorado Allen can benefit from that handicap rating and beat stable-mate Copperhead who was one place in front of him at Cheltenham last time. HONKY TONK HIGHWAY can win the finale, the Free Bet With Unibets Betbuilder Rebound Handicap Hurdle (Challenger Two Mile Hurdle Series Qualifier) (3.35pm). Dan Skelton’s six-year-old won on her second start over obstacles over course and distance last month and can make it two wins from three this season
