Live updates on the 2024 presidential race after President Biden dropped out and endorsed Kamala Harris.
Almost 4 in 5 Democratic voters support nominating Vice President Harris to replace President Biden as the presidential nominee, according to a newly released poll. The CBS News-YouGov survey asked Democratic voters if the party should get behind Harris or “someone else” after Biden ended his reelection bid Sunday and quickly backed Harris. Seventy-nine percent of respondents said Democrats should pick Harris; 21 percent said they supported someone else.
Harris has since racked up endorsements from large majorities of Democrats in Congress and raised a record-breaking $81 million, according to her presidential campaign. Fundraising figures won’t be confirmed until financial disclosures are filed next month. Generally, the poll found Democratic voters were happy with Biden’s decision to step aside.
