The White House announced Monday that the pensions of roughly 72,100 Teamsters members in New England that faced cuts will be protected under the American Rescue Plan. That brings the total number of union pensions protected by the Biden-Harris administration under the American Rescue Plan’s Butch Lewis Act to more than 1.1 million workers and retirees, including 610,000 Teamsters members, according to a White House statement. “This didn’t happen by accident.
It’s because my Administration is keeping our commitment to America’s workers,” President Biden said in a statement. The announcement arrives as Vice President Harris courts union voters who could play a crucial role in delivering her a victory in battleground states in the presidential race.
