Ellie Simmonds became emotional after winning a BAFTA for her film, Ellie Simmonds: Finding My Secret Family, as she spoke about the journey to find her birth mum
Paralympic swimmer Ellie Simmonds scooped up a BAFTA for her ITV documentary, Ellie Simmonds : Finding My Secret Family, on Sunday 12 May - and found it tough to talk about.
“Since opening up and going on this journey and then the documentary as well, I've had so many people reach out to me in the streets who have said ‘I'm adopted’ or ‘I know someone who's adopted’. And I think adoption is a subject that we don't really talk about but is touched by a lot of people.” When asked about whether the documentary had brought her closure, Ellie said yes but also said it ‘raised a lot of questions’ too.
