AMAN’s complaint included 29 posts it claimed “denigrates, dehumanises, and demonises Muslims, portraying them as an existential threat”. “X Corp is present in Queensland because it provides a service in Queensland and in my view carries on business in Queensland,” her ruling read. She argued there was a"sufficient basis to conclude that the business of X Corp does not operate in isolation in the USA".
“Protections in Australia do apply to social media companies, and hate speech is governed by clear standards, not corporate discretion.” QCAT’s ruling comes after X scored a win against government officials at the e-Safety Commission which ordered the social media platform take down videos of the alleged Wakeley stabbing.“The application to extend the interlocutory injunction granted on 22 April 2024 is refused,” Justice Geoffrey Kennett said, according to court transcripts.
