X owner Elon Musk has been hit with scathing criticism over a post following the second assassination attempt against Donald Trump, as he now faces a potential probe from the US Secret Service.
Tech billionaire Elon Musk has been met with fierce criticism following a now-deleted post about the second Donald Trump assassination attempt with the US Secret Service and the White House weighing in.
The tech billionaire argued, “And no one is even trying to assassinate Biden/Kamala,” with his comment accompanied by a thinking emoji. “One lesson I’ve learned is that just because I say something to a group and they laugh doesn’t mean it’s going to be all that hilarious on X,” he said. While it is unclear whether Mr Musk will face a probe over his comments, the email confirmed the Secret Service “investigates all threats related to our protectees”.
“Violence should only be condemned, never encouraged or joked about. This rhetoric is irresponsible,” he added. "In all seriousness, as a former federal prosecutor, I can tell you that a statement like Elon Musk's below DOES require an immediate visit by the U.S. Secret Service. That is the protocol in every similar situation," wrote another.
