Emily Atack has opened up about her relationship with scientist boyfriend Alistair Garner for the first time - and said reports they were cousins were 'very damaging'
Emily Atack has opened up about the significant impact rumours that she was "dating her cousin" had on her family. Speaking about her relationship with nuclear scientist beau Alistair Garner for the first time, Emily revealed that the reaction was "damaging" and caused a great deal of upset to her loved ones.
Despite this, Emily confessed that it's been a challenging year after their romance became public knowledge. In an interview with the Guardian, Emily said: "There were so many articles which were really hurtful, trying to make out there was something untoward about my relationship. There were headlines saying that I was dating my cousin, which is very damaging, very awful.
Alistair, a University of Manchester alum with a PhD under his belt, is a materials scientist and electron microscopist. According to the uni's website, he explores how high performance alloys break down in tough environments like nuclear and aerospace. Nowadays, he's switched gears to sustainability, taking on a role as Senior Consultant and Technical Lead for Core Materials at Jacobs.
