Flight EK241 was flying from Dubai to Toronto when it declared an emergency. The flight left the Arab state at around 4 am and was scheduled to land at Toronto Pearson International Airport at around 11am.

The A380 issued an emergency squawk 7700 code as it approached the Shetland Islands following a reported onboard medical emergency. Glasgow Airport has confirmed that the flight requested permission to land due to a medical emergency on board.
