Emmerdale is set for an explosive few episodes next week as lives are put in danger due to an ice disaster. As viewers will recall, at the start of the year, the soap aired several flash-forwards - with one showing a mystery hand being trapped under an icy lake. More details about the ice stunt has followed as next week, a limousine - that has some villagers on board - will crash into the lake - with several lives hanging in the balance.
And now Emmerdale has shared a first look teaser at the stunt with two haunting promotional videos highlighting the chilling February storylines. The first trailer, released on Friday 7 February, sees romance turn into terror as a Valentine's Day nightmare leaves viewers on the edge of their seats. In the chilling teaser, the video sees a red heart shaped helium balloon flying from the front of The Woolpack across the sky to where it finally lands on an icy lake. Viewers then see a lone hand, trapped and scratching at the surface from under the ice. In the upcoming second trailer, it will see Emmerdale's most ambitious ice sequence yet as a heart-stopping scene featuring two limousines packed with villagers crashes before one of the cars becomes trapped on a frozen lake as the ice threatens to give way beneath them. Producer, Laura Shaw, said: 'We wanted to create something that would really grab our audience's attention and hint at the scale of what's coming. These promos perfectly capture the tension and suspense of our February storylines.' It comes as fans reckon the hand under the lake is none other than Cain Dingle. Cain (Jeff Hordley) has been a staple on the soap for 25 years - making his debut in 2000. As the troublemaking village lothario, Cain has become a firm favourite with fans over the years. Sharing their thoughts online, fans pointed out how the hand in the lake appears to have a wedding ring and a bracelet on. And last week, Cain was given a bracelet by youngster Frankie Robinson. 'I’m guessing it will be Cain under the Ice. We know it’s a male with a wedding ring and they are wearing a bracelet. Frankie gave Cain a bracelet that she made,' said one person on an Emmerdale Facebook fan page. Other fans agreed as a second viewer pointed out: 'Cain wears a silvery metal coloured ring… the hand under the ice was a similar colour and width also the shape of the fingers on the hand looks very much like Cain’s unfortunately.' A third chimed in: 'You could be onto something but I really don’t want him to die!' A fourth also wrote: 'I’m pretty sure it’s Cain too.' Emmerdale airs weeknights on ITV1 and ITVX at 7.30pm
